Music Therapy
Music Therapy is a healthcare profession in which music is used to address the cognitive, emotional, language, physical, or social needs of individuals. After assessing the strengths and needs of a client, a qualified Music Therapist provides treatment, which may include singing, playing instruments, moving to music, listening to music, or improvising. Through musical involvement in a therapeutic setting, clients’ skills are strengthened and then transferred to other areas of their lives. Research in Music Therapy consistently supports its efficacy in positively impacting one or more areas of child development, including academic performance, self-expression, receptive and expressive vocabulary, gross and fine motor control, or parallel, cooperative, and competitive play.
